Requirements:

Must be integral part of study:

• You must receive approval from OISS
• You must be enrolled full-time for one academic year before you are eligible for CPT
• Exception: graduate students may begin immediately if program requires
• You are only able to work for one specific employer at a time

• NO cumulative maximum
• Must be during your academic program
• Part time (20 hours or less), Full time (more than 20 hours)
• Full time for an aggregate one year or more ELIMINATES OPT eligibility
• Must have an offer of employment from employer

Student must make an appointment with OISS to submit:

Letter from Employer (on employer letter head) with:

• Name of employer
• Location
• Employment start and end date

Requirements:

• Can be before or after completion of academic program
• You are eligible for 12 months of OPT; Two separate application need to be submitted to USCIS for each instance of OPT

• You must notify the OISS when you have secured employment. You can either:

  • Item 16 on form
    • (c)(3)(A) for pre-completion
    • (c)(3)(C) for STEM (17month) extension
    • (c)(3)(B) for post-completion

OPT Begins

Stem Program

2 -year extension of post-completion OPT for students with a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degree. Consistent with paragraph (f)(11)(i)(C) of this section, 合资格的学生可在完成OPT课程后的有效期内申请延长OPT课程. 如果满足以下所有要求，将再延长24个月. (Revised 4/8/08; 73 FR 18944 )
